MAGISTRATE PATRICK F. MCCARTHY


Patrick F. McCarthy has served as a Magistrate for the General Division of the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas since 1997.

A lifelong area resident and 1981 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, Magistrate McCarthy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Kent State University in 1985. He then worked as a newspaper beat reporter for the Trumbull County Bureau of the Youngstown Vindicator for two years.

Deciding to pursue a legal career, Magistrate McCarthy graduated from the Ohio State University College of Law and was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio in 1990.  He then entered private practice as an Associate with the Columbus law firm of Carlile, Patchen, Murphy & Allison.

Returning to Trumbull County, Magistrate McCarthy joined the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office in 1991. He served as a member of both the Criminal and Civil Divisions. He also served as Chief of the Appellate Division and Administrator of the Criminal Division.

Magistrate McCarthy was appointed to his current position in August 1997.  He oversees the Court’s dockets for civil stalking protection orders, debtor/creditor matters (garnishments, writs of execution, etc.), and certificates for qualification of employment, in addition to handling mediations, trials and any additional matters referred to him pursuant to Civ. R. 53.

Magistrate McCarthy is a member of the Trumbull County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio Association of Magistrates. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio.
