Judge Ronald J. Rice was elected to the Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, General Division, in 2012. He has been a life-long resident of Trumbull County. He attended Brookfield High School between 1970 through 1974. He received his Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) in 1979 and his Master of Arts (American History) in 1981 from Youngstown State University. Judge Rice received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law in 1985, and was admitted to the Ohio Bar that same year. Judge Rice has been licensed to practice law before the Supreme Court of Ohio; the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio; the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Judge Rice is a member of the American Judges Association, the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Trumbull County Bar Association. He served as President of the TCBA in 2000-2001.
Previously, Judge Rice was engaged in the private practice of law at Ronald J. Rice Co., LPA from 1985 through 2013. His full-time practice included an emphasis in personal injury claims, litigation, general business law, corporate law and limited criminal defense. He has served as an arbitrator on a myriad of civil disputes.
Judge Rice previously served as a Trumbull County Democratic Party Committee person for Precinct K of Brookfield Township. In 1992, Judge Rice was elected to the bench of the Trumbull County Eastern District Court where he continuously served through 2012. In 2012, Judge Rice was elected to the Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, General Division.
The Judge also served as a part-time instructor in “Law and Ethics in the Medical Profession” at Youngstown State University. Judge Rice is an aviation aficionado and maintains a private pilot license.
